허위 백신 프로그램의 배포 방법을 설명하면서 2009년 1-3월까지 총 111,086 개의 새로운 허위 백신 프로그램을 발견했는데 이는 2008년 전체에 20%에 해당한다고 한다.

This type of malware has increased significantly over the last year. According to data from PandaLabs, the number of variants of fake antiviruses has increased one hundredfold between the first quarter of 2008 and the corresponding period in 2009. In fact, in the first three months of 2009 no less than 111,086 new strains of fake antiviruses were detected, 20% more than in the whole of 2008.

국내 상황 역시 자체적으로 제작된 이런 허위 백신 프로그램이 버젓이 활동하고 있다.
